Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract; mix until well combined.
  4. Carefully stir in boiling water (the batter will be thin).
  5. If desired, add a few drops of red food coloring for a pink hue.
  6. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
Baking
  1. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  2. Allow the cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on wire racks.
Frosting and Decoration
  1. Frost with buttercream frosting and decorate with fresh strawberries or chocolate as desired.
