Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract; mix until well combined.
- Carefully stir in boiling water (the batter will be thin).
- If desired, add a few drops of red food coloring for a pink hue.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
Baking
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on wire racks.
Frosting and Decoration
- Frost with buttercream frosting and decorate with fresh strawberries or chocolate as desired.
Notes
