Danish Base
  • 1 sheet store-bought puff pastry Thaw to package directions
  • 1 large egg For egg wash
  • 1 tbsp cold water To mix with the egg
Cream Cheese Filling
  • 4 oz cream cheese Let it reach room temperature
  • 2 tbsp white sugar Adjusts sweetness
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract Adds flavor depth
  • 1/2 cup diced strawberries Fresh for best flavor
  • a few drops red food coloring For a lovely tint

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Thaw the puff pastry sheet as per package directions.
  2. Preheat your oven to 400°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. In a mixing bowl, blend the cream cheese, sugar, vanilla extract, and a few drops of red food coloring until smooth.
  4. Gently fold in the diced strawberries and set this filling aside.
  5. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a floured surface and cut into heart shapes using a cookie cutter.
  6. Place hearts on the lined baking sheet.
  7. Spoon some cream cheese filling into the center of each heart, leaving space at the edges.
  8. Fold over the edges to form a slight border.
  9. In a small bowl, whisk the egg with the cold water to create an egg wash.
  10. Brush the tops of each pastry with the egg wash for a golden finish.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

Serve warm. Dust with powdered sugar for an elegant touch. Garnish with fresh strawberry slices or mint leaves. Ensure oven temperature is accurate for the best crust.
