Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients.
  4. Stir in boiling water until well mixed (the batter will be thin).
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes.
  2. Allow cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a rack.
  3. Slice each cake in half horizontally for four layers.
Assembly
  1. Start with one layer on a plate, spread with jam, and top with sliced strawberries.
  2. Repeat with remaining layers.
  3. Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth; gradually add powdered sugar and strawberry puree.
  4. Frost the top and sides of the cake with the strawberry cream cheese frosting.
  5. Decorate with fresh strawberries on top before serving.

Notes

For the best results, use room temperature ingredients, sift the dry ingredients, and allow the cake to cool completely before frosting. You can also try adding brewed coffee to the boiling water for a richer flavor.
