Preparation
- In a saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Gradually stir in the milk.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
- In a bowl, whisk the egg yolks and slowly mix in some hot pudding. Return the egg mixture to the saucepan.
- Cook for 2-3 minutes more, then remove from heat. Stir in vanilla and butter.
Assembly
- In a trifle dish, layer wafers, bananas, and pudding. Repeat layers, finishing with pudding on top.
- Chill for at least 4 hours before serving.
Notes
To prevent bananas from browning, slice them just before layering. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
