Method

Preparation
  1. Brown the ground beef and Italian sausage in a large skillet.
  2. Sauté chopped onion and garlic until fragrant.
  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, beef broth, red wine, sugar, salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and bay leaves. Simmer sauce for at least 1 hour.
Cheese Mixture
  1. In a bowl, mix ricotta, grated Parmesan, shredded mozzarella, beaten eggs, parsley, salt, and pepper for filling.
Assembly
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook lasagna noodles as per package instructions, then drain and rinse with cold water.
  2. In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce. Layer noodles, cheese filling, and repeat until all ingredients are used, finishing with sauce and cheese on top.
  3. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil, add mozzarella, and bake an additional 25 minutes until cheese is golden.
  4. Let rest for 15-20 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley and additional Parmesan if desired.

Notes

Use high-quality ingredients for the best flavor. Allow your sauce to simmer longer for deep, rich flavors. Don't rush cooling the lasagna; resting it allows the layers to set and makes it easier to slice.
