Ingredients
Method
Preparation
- Brown the ground beef and Italian sausage in a large skillet.
- Sauté chopped onion and garlic until fragrant.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, beef broth, red wine, sugar, salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and bay leaves. Simmer sauce for at least 1 hour.
Cheese Mixture
- In a bowl, mix ricotta, grated Parmesan, shredded mozzarella, beaten eggs, parsley, salt, and pepper for filling.
Assembly
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook lasagna noodles as per package instructions, then drain and rinse with cold water.
- In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce. Layer noodles, cheese filling, and repeat until all ingredients are used, finishing with sauce and cheese on top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil, add mozzarella, and bake an additional 25 minutes until cheese is golden.
- Let rest for 15-20 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley and additional Parmesan if desired.
Notes
Use high-quality ingredients for the best flavor. Allow your sauce to simmer longer for deep, rich flavors. Don't rush cooling the lasagna; resting it allows the layers to set and makes it easier to slice.
